Default Server requirements
What kind of hardware would be necessary to host a board with approx. 140.000 members, with up to 4.000 users being online at the same time (based on a 15 minute cookie timeout)?

Somthing rather powerfull i would guess

2-3 servers

1-2 web servers for files

1 database server

All scsi disks and all connected by nic cards

You would be best off asking George / Erwin for the best advise

For which files - attachments? Attachments would not be required/allowed.

Uups! Yeah, that makes sense.
I thought you ware talking about 2-3 web-servers, 1-2 file-servers and 1 database server

It seems like a waste to me to have 2 servers with each only about 20mb of php files and images on them...


Probably each has their own 80gb HD as well

Considering the fact that Apache causes some load 1 server might not be able to handle that much?

Its not the file storage aspect its the php processing, php + apache + tons of users can drive a rather large load.
