Can cookies be made different for AdminCP and the normal Forums?
I think most of the admins have faced that, but I can't figure it out (maybe the fact that I only slept for an hour last night is the reason).
I am in AdminCP and do some changes in a profile, which affects registered users only. So, I open a new browser window, go into the forums and check what I've done. Now, since the change affects the normal users, I have to login the forum as a normal user, using a test account. I do my testing, and I am not satisfied with the results, so I switch over to the AdminCP window to do some more changes. Bingo, I have to re-login. I assume this is a cookie issue, can't that be made so that the AdminCP window stays logged in as the admin and the forums window stays logged in as a normal user? Security issues maybe??? I don't know, what I know is that this is a pain. Rgds ------------ John |

Or you can use a different browser, like "FireFox" or maybe "Mozilla" and use that just for testing purposes.
That is what I do. |

sv1cec... you just answered your own question... you tell yourself not willing to learn new tools... why do we have to modify a tool for you if you're not willing to make the effort to change ?!
the human nature is easier to model than a code you know... you just have to "try" ... btw, there is no age forthe exploration... my last client is 76years old and is learning to manage an entire community on his own... took 2 weeks and now he is working like any teen on vB! |

nexialys: A really unhelpful response...
sv1cec: it would take a major modification to separate the logic for AdminCP cookie authentication from that of the board. You have two options: 1) do your AdminCp work from a different browser; 2) hack it or get it hacked: A useful hack I have found is that of "Login as User" from the AdminCP User dropdown - it allows you to simply add a cookie for accessing as any user on your board... but it will not beat this issue. |

I sincerely appreciate your constructive criticism on my issue, it shows maturity to say the least. A couple of questions if you please: Who told you I am not in for exploration?? I learned vB and php in less than two months, while still having to provide for a family of five, including two babies. And I manage a Forums site, which is quite interesting, at least as far as the hacks I've done are concerned. I just find it stupid to have to learn a new browser idiosyncracies, just for that reason. As I find stupid to learn a new word processor or a new spreadsheet, if the ones I am currently using cover my needs. Why do you have to modify a tool for me? First of all, you do not. I do not remember asking you personally to do anything for me. I asked the vbulletin.org community, and believe me, I am as much part of that community as you are. Why on earth are you in this forum, if you are not interested in modifying vB? Why don't you take your attitude somewhere else? If you do not agree with my requested mod, it's fine with me, but will you please allow me to have a different opinion than yours?? Thank you. -------------- John |

hey, thanks for the comment... looks like i've been read after all...
@NAtch... i know i'm not helpful... that was the goal of my post... i didn't replyed to your request, i replyed to your comment to not willing to change... if you want to have a real change in the code for that specific use, it will require you to have a small (really) modification that will call two different cookies for the session. one for the main site, one for the admincp. sorry if you didn't like my opinion, maybe i'm not useful at first because i sometimes give my opinion instead of being a robot... EDIT: deleted the last comment and add a link: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=70351 |

As I said, I do not like changing things which work. Change for the change alone is not something I enjoy. Adding another browser to my PC is not something I like, just because of the troubles it can create. As I work now, I use Netscape. I hate IE, just because of its inability to be adjusted the way I like it. I still have it in here, just because some sites do not work with Netscape. On the other hand, change is good if it gives you more functionality or features. If you could compare the files of my vB forum to the originals, you would see that very few of them are as they came from vBulletin. My code may not be perfect, but I think it's working and not only for me. If you check the Warning Hack by Zero Tolerance, you 'll see (towards the end), that I released my code to the members here, to get advantage of my work. We are here to help each other. According to my way of thinking, this is what the forums (all forums) should be, and this is the beauty of this Internet. To bring people together and make the whole planet, one "small" community. I am sorry if you didn't like my comment, but my time is too valuable to spend it looking for how to clear the cache in a new browser. I prefer to spend it improving the vB code, or to play with my babies. I'll check the new hack, thanks for taking the time to write it. Rgds |
