Default How much bandwith does your site use?

All of a sudden our bandwith has shot up to around 500-700MB/day. I'm not sure it thats normal or what. The last few days, for some reason, we have had an average of 15-20 members on our forums with the max being 30.

With that said, do you think 500-700MB/day is high or to low. I'm just tyring to get a feel and see if my images may be to large or something

Thanks,

Make sure you prevent hotlinking of images on your site using .htaccess or mod_rewrite. Other sites may be leeching your bandwidth.

I'm not sure if its as much as that or if its just my files are to large and stuff. I do have a lot of images. Do you guys think that ammount is normal for a site with around 5-20 users online at once on the forums in the daytime?

I used hotlink from cpanel for a few days, then took it down because 1 of my members would just see a red X where all the pics where, no one else was reporting that problem. I figured if one can only see red X's, I'm sure their are more out their lol.

Is that 5-20 for a 24hrs period? or 5-20 on all the time, I've just had a look and you had no members on and 4 guests, if it's 5-20 users in a 24hr period then 500-700MB is way too much transfer in a day, I don't have a big forum I have 15-25 regular members that visit everyday, I don't know how often the other 240 members visit, I do have a lot of guests and search engine spiders are there almost 24/7, 207 attachments that have been downloaded 5,515 times, and all of last month I only used about 1.6GB

Try installing PCFreaks stats hack it will give you loads of info about your forum, also if you have cpanel check the stats see if anyone is linking pictures to other websites, if they are change the pic for something naughty

my site got bandwidth limit exceeded in Junly with 10GB bandwidth, now we have 50GB bandwidth, sometimes google spiders come over 200 spiders at a time. I ought to use the robots.txt file to prevent them not going to link that useless for searching and they can't access (like new thread or new reply). alos I use .htaccess file to prevent hot linking from other sites.

BTW: is there a way to prevent any file we want ? like .mp3, .wma,... files, I have a jukebox but I don't want other sites use my music files.
