Avoid Flooding

Hey,

Now my board have been flooding day through night costs me more than 4000GB per day... (my board usually takes lower than 1000GB/day) and server loads more than 15.00% (4 cpus). I've had to turn on the Password Protect Directory for the forum root folder each time and the traffics reduce instantly. I can't block the Ip cause if I did, each time the query being created(from the bad guys) and my server wouldn't receive it(block Ip function) and it would automatically write back on the logs server and you know, this can lead to overload and... :ermm:. This disaster can not persist to my board anymore, Got any suggestion?

vb has a flood system built in

I can't find any flooding system thing in vb options, just Email Check, Message Posting and PMing, nothing related

I think it's more like DOS cause bad guys request directly to the root forum folder :ermm:

in vb3 go to vboptions:
then go to message posting and editing options. in there is a setting titled minimum time between posts

I know, I already set it to 90 sec.

I'm not sure it's DOS or flooding, just known each time I turn the Password Protect Directory off(from Cpanel) and the server load and bandwidth go up to 3, 4 times :ermm:

I would ask at the vBulletin.com forum. What you're looking for is most probably a server (apache/whatever) setting and doesn't have much to do with vBulletin anymore.
You could also try asking your host for help.

Another thing you might want to do (if you haven't already) is post in the server optimisation forum to have your server settings optimized. On big boards it can make quite some difference...
