I am currently looking to install a photogallery in my forum. but i am having hard time to pick 1. I've heard 4image and photopost are the best for vb3? is that true? correct me if i am wrong.
Ok then here are the questions. 4image or photopost which one is better for vb3? and what are the difference between these 2 script. Which one use less cpu load and faster? which one is more stable? could anyone add some comments and suggestions? |

I use both - on separate forums. In my opinion, Photopost is the best one but it's commercial. If you don't want to pay then use 4Images.
Photopost appears to integrate better with vB but there are hacks available for both here. Photopost will use vB's stylesheets, and the user database and permissions. 4Images uses the user database, and will copy the user groups but when a new user joins, you have to manually modify their groups in 4Images which is a pain (unless I've missed something in the setup). It could be because both my galleries are members only. 4images does it's job, it's free, it doesn't get updated often (which is either a good thing or a bad thing depending on your point of view). I don't have any cpu problems with either of them. |

If you don't mind paying for it, I think Photopost is the way to go. A lot of the focus lately has been on forum integration, and because it uses vB's style sheets, it makes a great addon for vB.

Photopost does have a favourites for pics you like and I believe you can allow a zip download though this can be switched off. It also accepts a zip upload too - it opens the zip and gives you the option to go through and add descriptions, keywords, etc. to each photo.
There are 3 products - Photopost PHP Pro, Reviewpost (allows product reviews) and Classifieds (Classified adverts, for sale, wanted, etc.). The one you want is the Photopost PHP Pro which is currently on sale at $129.00 (down from $199). I have Photopost and Classifieds. Classifieds is new and needs a bit more development but is already a great program. By the way I am just a customer. When I first bought Photopost a long time ago, I got a hell of a lot of help to install it on a RAQ4. |

It will work with 3.0.3 as the information it uses from the database has not changed since 3.0.1 - it only has simple integration.

Why not just use coppermine and do some moderate template changes to make it a seamless integration into your forum?
You'll get similar capabilities like photopost, not have to pay for it - just have to do a little work to get it to look 'right' with the forum skin you happen to be using. (shouldn't be difficult.) |

PhotoPost has a higher level of integration than either 4images or Coppermine (including the use of avatars and signatures in photo comments). As a commercial script, you also have a paid support staff to help with any problems/issues which may arise.
There are some decent free scripts out there, although PhotoPost was the first script to focus on forum integrations and continues to lead the pack. Do your research and check out some sites that use them together: http://www.photopostdev.com is a PhotoPost development site using vB3/PhotoPost/ReviewPost and Classifieds. |

thanks for all the comments. I've just brought photo post and installed it. the script is kinda good. i mean it works well with the forum. But the install guide is not too detail. It took me long time to install it and i had to browse their support forum, search for the error message i get in the forums to install it.
The script is good no doubt it's better than 4image as far as i can see. i haven't try coppermine. but it's very hard to install with a incomplete guide. and there are alot of path change needed in vb3 to make it work. I just hope they could improve the guide to make it more detail step by step so it would be much easier for the newbies like me to install it without having to spend hrs to solve the problems. |
