Good place to buy forums?
I'm looking for a good place to buy basically some older past their prime forums that have a decent amount of backlog for members and threads.
Sites that used to be good, but suck now. I'm wanting to take on another fixer upper and revive another site. My current/last fixup was http://www.iamnotageek.com which if you look at alexa it dropped completely off the face of the earth and this month it's generating $1k! I'm looking at doing another turn around smiliar to that. The key for me is a large amount of threads in the forum and a halfway decent amount of current activity. |

iamnotageek.com is a great site! Great job. I refer many of my friends and family to that site. Also You probably already know this but many sites revolving around the topic of web development such as SitePoint or hosting related sites like WebhostingForums, or even Domain sites like namepros or that of affiliated with iNetInteractive might be a good place.

I've already posted a WTB in both sitepoint and webhostingforums thanks for the additional 2!
I'm talking seriously to 2 different guys right now. I'm wanting to branch into another topic cause I get kinda bored with the same old computer stuff all the time. PLUS IANAG's traffic has become extremely stable now so I'd like to take advantage of that and play a waiting game with search engines and basically slow the pace down on that site. I've mailed out 104 articles since 2-29. I've recently shifted over to developing some apps to go alongside the articles and some keyword spamming to take advantage of the PR6. If I could find a decent forum for a good price that the owner has just lost the will to keep going that would be great LOL |

yup.... purely off ads in JULY which by all accounts is by far the worst month for my industry. Even during the "offseason" I've kept IANAG growing at an acceptable rate. primarily due to search positioning. My next goal is hitting PR7 with google since it's a PR6 currently. I'm in serious talks with 2 sites right now that are both in markets I'd like to be in.
SO I'm probably out of the market now. Maybe in 3 or 4mnths I'll go shopping again if you're an alexa stats junky you may think that IANAG's traffic has gone down the past couple months. Basically what has happened is I quit doing "blockbuster" type articles which bring extreme peaks in traffic. Instead what I've been doing is smaller ones that are easier to do but don't bring any real traffic boosts yet are useful in their own ways. You'll also see that the daily unique readers is still climbing yet the pageviews per person has dropped like a rock. that kills the overall graph with their stats system |

Just curious, what sort of ad company are you with?

IANAG is currently fastclick as level 1 on the main site with casale being the fillers and google for the forums. I will be inserting Vibrand Media and Burst ads into the mix to help bring the revenue up even higher.
My goal is $2k+ for the winter months which are of course the prime season. shopping.com ads weren't included since they weren't really doing enough so I removed them in favor of CPM based skyscrapers. I might still mix them in for articles and stuff, but I picked them up when I was thinking I might sway a bit towards hardware. I ended up NOT doing that.... |
