Default Dear vB.org members..

Recently times havn't been so good around here, everywhere you go it seems people are bickering back and forth or members are turning agenst other members. It seems that somewhere along the line we forgot how to care for each other...

Not long ago I was a ubb/perl convert just coming over to vBulletin. I left one community for this one, that other community was great, but with time grew to be a pit for arguments and rants. vB.org was differnt, there was a sense of family here. If you had a coding error someone would take care of you, and keep a eye on your thread to make sure you got it *just right* and understood why it was broken in the first place.

Without the help of this site, I would still be a novice in php, I owe a lot of my coding ablity to the senior members of this board. Everyday I try to give back and help out as much as I can. Newbies with little experance are tomorrow's top hackers, without them this community will eventally die as the older members numbers grow thiner.

Awhile ago we where debating why this site was created in the first place, this is not the question we should be asking ourselfs. We are dwelling on the past and it is taking us no where. The question we should be asking ourselfs is 'Where should this site be going?'.

As a vBulletin customer I encourage you to really think about that question, then contact wayne luke about the issues. There is a reason he was apointed to oversee these resource communitys. If you even want to begin to see change you need to voice yourself, we (the resource staff) meet on a regular basis to disscuss issues with these sites, so if you want something brought up at these meets you need to let us know.

Also please, please try to cut down on all this public argument. If you have a problem with someone you can always disscuss it via pm or email, the ignore button is there for these situations if they get out of control. And don't forget there is always a higher power you can contact. I understand that some things need to be disscussed in public, but such issues can always get along without flaming, as long as everybody conducts themselves in a professinal manner and sticks to the issues.

I guess i'm just saying that imo it is time for everyone to take a chill pill and relax, enjoy life, a lot of us (including myself i'll admit) seem to be getting way to wrapped up in this vBulletin.org soap oprea. So lets all get away from the computer and get some fresh air, and when everyone has a clear head again lets meet back here and disscuss how we can improve this community.

Unless, of course, the flaming is coming from the higher powers themselves. Moderators do set the tone and when they go on the offensive, it gives people a green light to follow or respond.

If you have a problem with a mod you can always go to the admin's of this site. They are always there for you if you feel the need to contact them.

Yes, although I have yet to receive a response from any of the inquries I made to those people regarding my situation. Based on my own experience, I haven't seen anything that suggests doing so results in any kind of consideration/response.

I was simply pointing out that a Moderators role in setting the tone of the site is important and filters down.

I agree that the mods do set the do's and don'ts of a community when they post. While at the same time you can't expect them not to have an opioin of their own.

Who did you contact? Mabey I can help you get a quicker responce.

In fact, I made that very arguement just recently (mods are entitled to their own opinion). However, when that opinion is used to flame or attack another member, then I would suggest that crosses the line. It also makes any response by another moderator to restore order that much more difficult. If you want to change the tone, then the mods have to work that much harder to avoid altercations.

At the risk of sounding like sour grapes, I will refrain from further opinion.

I totally agree with everything said here, even though I visit vBulletin.org everyday I hardly ever visit threads that aren't related to coding because of all the arguing.

I used to admin a board in which there were litterally wars between the staff and members, and people were getting post counts in the thousands because of it. Then the board completely diminished.

I'd hate to see that happen to here.

And if only a little activity happened at vBT then both sites could be what vB.org used to be.

I have to agree with Brad on this too. The Lounge seems to have frequent arguments, and sometimes they are just not worth arguing over. Small things ends up erupting into multi-page threads of insults and pointless bickering. Sometimes they are mature conversations between a few members, but most of the time they just go too far.
