Ok, when I open my forum main page with Internet explorer, Apache's log says the file was 40046 bytes long. But when I open it through Firebird, Apache says it was 5709 bytes long.
I have gzip on. Doesn't IE support it?

Try turning the cache completely off in both browsers, fully enabling cookies, and trying again.

Same thing... Very odd.

With IE:
