Default Specific kind of userprofile field

Ok, here is what i really could need for my site. I don't know, if it will be just a template hack or a "real" hack, but anyway:

I desperatly need an additional profile field, BUT... it should only be view & useable by certain membergroups. And the option, that is selected should be shown as an additional information in the postbit, BUT only in a certain forum and in this forum for everyone. Have to add, that people, who have acces to this forum are from the same usergroup who should be able to see and select an option somewhere.

To focus the problem a little bit more, i explain exactly the use for it:
You have a staff team with a staff forum. Not everyone can be online in a regular way all the time. These option should give them the possibility to select an "away-status" (or some other status) showing in the post of each staff member in the staff forum. This way everybody from the staff sees right away, what status each of the team members has, without maintenance an extra thread, etc. Makes life easier for them and for the poor person, who has to keep track of it manually.

I really hope, somebody can help me out here.

PS. I will ask over @ vbulletin.com, too. I think Freddie's postbit enhancement (make the postbit layout a user option) is kind of the way to do this to.

Um, go into your AdminCP, add the field, then go into the code of wherever you want to restrict viewing, and check $bbuserinfo['groupid'], I think it was..

If you look at the code you can figure it out.

If you don't understand what I mean, you see, each different type of member (Admin, Mod, Smod, etc) has a specific ID attached to it, which is their groupid.

So!! If you check it, you can tell it not to display certain things.

I understand exactly what you're saying with the usergroup-ids and restricting it. But how?
