Product code vs username and dedicated area
Hi - can someone suggest a easy solution to the following:
We are about to release a music CD where each cover has a number on them. This number is to be used to access a dedicated area on our web page for that buyer / member. Dont worry about royalty and rights... that will be according to the book. However... can anyone suggest an easy system for having the numbers on the CD identified in vbulletin? I can not use the usergroup feature I think.. as that one will be used for something else. Thanks! |

Are you coding this yourself or looking for a pre-made solution?
I think the best way to keep track of it would be adding a new member feild to the database to store this cd id. When a member buys the cd you update the cd id to the correct number. This would only work if registered members are the only group allowed to buy cd's. If you wanted to you could store the cd id's in a table with a email, then match the email to one in the vBulletin member database. |

Thank you for the advice.
Most likely I will need to get some help with it. Mostly because it needs to be automated... especially if we sign licensing agreements and the printing of the cover is out of our control so to speak. I have yet to get explained how the record companies handles these numbers normally. Dont think its like software.. |

What kind of printing company are you doing this with?, my uncle runs a printing company and custom orders like this arent really a problem. You could print them yourself, paper and ink are alot cheaper on wholesale, you just need a good amount of printers and some time.
