I want to add a "You have X new messages since your last visit," just like on this board, on my main page. How can I do that? I also want to add an "Edit" button (so people can edit their threads) in their posts (I've got a custom board and don't have it, but I'm sure it's not that hard to add). Thank you.

It's part of FireFly's vBPortal. Check the hacks database (under Portal Software catagory) for similar portals

They can give the same result, or try searching.
