i was at some uBB board the other day and noticed how much of the vB3 stuff they had incorperated into their newest software, so what i'm wondering is what came first; the chicken or the egg?
who comes up with this stuff, who's ripping who's ideas? |

Nobody rips anybody. It's called competition.

What I see usually happens is the hackers drive the innovation. Especially at UBB. They look at Vbulletin and other boards, see cool features and then create hacks for them. The hacks become popular and eventually become part of the product.
Hell, I do the same thing. I go to UBBDev and look to see if there are any cool ideas for hacks or cool hack requests. I also look at other boards. Trouble is, Vbulletin usually already has those features so I don't wind up finding anything new. ![]() |

UbbDev is quite pathetic, they have what, 10 - 15 hacks, where as we have HUNDREDS that work...

I think its cool how UBB tries to compete with vbulletin. The competition (even thought some deny there even is any) is good for software as it leads to competition for new and innovative ideas

yeah competition rules, pity it aint got vB3 coming out quicker tho lol
from what i hear uBB outsells vB :baffled: but oh well i guess even vB is fueled by hacks so lets hope it produces some huge innovations sooner or later |

UBB is more expensive than vB. Maybe it outsells by dollar value.

well, the way i see it is all forum software rip off eachother .. i have seen many feature other forums have and vbulletin is now adding them after so many years, makes you think where they got the idea from ... while i have see other forums that have added some of the same feature vbulletin has .. visa versa .. no big deal.
i have done it too, if i visit a site and i see something that i like i will implement it into my site, i won't physically rip it, but i'll code/design it. anyone who says they never got an idea from another site is a liar.. ![]() |

Ripping is exactly copying something. Inspiration is getting an idea from somebody and replicating it or something similar to it. They're quite different.
Notice how KDE and Gnome both have psuedo-start menus? MS isn't the only one copying ideas. |
