Placing 3 images as category background (left-middle-right)

Hello all.

I have seen many sites doing this. They have 3 images as category background, so the result seems like a nice border - with special edges.

examples :

ok now from what i understand (correct me if i'm wrong) they have done this by having 3 cells at the category.
they place one image - which is like an edge - at the left cell, a simple embossed (or whatever) image at the middle cell, and one other edge-looking at the right one...

could someone giude me on how exactly i can do this?

(code, templates, etc...)

side-note: I have the "images on categories" template hack at my site... already - but only with 1 image as cat image...

the original code that was published there is the the following:

1. Goto Admin CP --> Templates --> Modify --> Show All (for the style you want to edit).
2. Select EDIT for forumhome_forumbit_level1_nopost
3. on the very first line of the template, add:

</tr>
</table>
4. You might want to change the td width to fit your forums.
5. Thats all!  Take a look

but many people said its not working right...

so a new solution was given:

Go to your ACP and open forumhome_forumbit_level1_nopost 

Right at the top over </table> put this

<td align="center" background="images/catbmiddle.jpg" width="100%"></a></td>

Save this

Now go to your forumhome temp and search for $forumbits

Put right below

Save it

Now with the 2nd solution - u have the chance to put 3 cells = 3 images...

I tried the 2nd solution and its not working,
Then what I did was that I removed the left and right cell and left only the center one....

in all cases my board is stretched and covers all the width of the screen.... although I have it smaller....

then I tried the 1st solution... but problems.. so I did the 1st solution again with adding the same code to the forumhome template, too...

same results...
any ideas?
