Default Backing up your localhost database--how??

I have Vbuleltin installed on my computer localhost, but I have one problem--backing it up! I have tried using telnet and putty to backup my database but It gives me an error saying my computer rejected the connection. My guess is you can't do it. So is there an alternative way maybe? I'm not sure whether or not downloading a .sql file from the AdminCP is reliable or not even if its just my localhost.

If you have phpMyAdmin installed, you can download a backup of the database which vBulletin uses. If you do not have it installed or do not wish to install it, you can use the backup from the admin control panel. I have used a backup from the Admin CP many times and they are as reliable as phpMyAdmin is.

Heh, FireFly you seemed to misunderstand my scenario in Post #1, because I'm on a localhost, as in I've got Vbulletin installed on my computer. When I try to use telnet or putty to make connections to my localhost, in order to make a backup, my computer refuses connection. My guess is that you can't make telnet connections to your computer (it seems logical). Is there anyother way of backing up?

And restoring from phpmyadmin when you have a large database I've heard is not the safest thing to do..then again, I'm on localhost so maybe it will be fine.

(For Windows: )

MSDOS Prompt(/cmd), go into MYSQL/bin dir and run this command:

mysql dbname > backup.sql

It can take sometime, after it finished you'll find the file backup.sql in your mysql/bin dir
