Default Vb5 bad reviews everywhere. Why?

Why are people bad taking vb5 throughout the webmaster scene. I’m reading nothing but reviews and I just bought a vb5 version. Is it true that it’s garbage and not worth buying? Plus over vb.org there’s hardly any new modifications or styles for it. They’re saying ever since jelsoft sold it’s become garbage.

Even the support team at vB5 says vB5 is better as a packaged platform. So if someone wanted to start a forum, vB5 may offer more than what XenForo offers as a standalone product.

Then there's the support issues, like this customer who paid for vBulletin's cloud services so it was all fully managed & supported by vBulletin:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zMnavb--lM4

Listen to his story. He was ignored. XF's Developers swooped in to help him migrate over to XF.

My opinion of vB5, it's a bloated platform. It's like buying a brand name PC: HP, Lenovo, Dell, etc.

Where it comes with all the extra software that makes it feel heavy.

I prefer the customizability, like PC enthusiast who custom build their PCs. Sure it cost more in the long run, but it performs much better when it's exactly tailored to you, and not just the general public.

I've switched to XF myself.

You should see this too:

It's absolute junk only useful for small hobist sites, no serious forum admin would go near it.

I wish I could get a refund on my vb purchase. Didn’t download it yet so I wonder if that would get me my money back and thanks for your feedback.

That certainly used to be the case and possibly still is. Unfortunately vbulletin.com is currently off-line, supposedly due to server maintenance but when it comes back you might want to check to see if you are entitled to a refund before you download anything.

I also agree with what's been said, vB5 is not something I would want to use. The underlying code is old, there are still way too many bugs and it's proving rather insecure. There's also virtually no third party support.

If I really had to use it I'd look at the hosted version which appears to be better supported plus it's limited in terms of customisation so there's less to go wrong.

I keep hearing this from people who want to use outdated technology to run their forums.

Personally, I think it's the other way around. People who don't want to have to learn anything new prefer vBulletin 4 and (cough) a competing product.

But the nonsense that people cling to with those products like arcades and shoutboxes is useless against social media.

So much more can be done with vBulletin 5 to bring forums, web media, social media, and other information together than was ever possible with any other platform.

People with existing sites didn't want to fundamentally change their forums and I understand that. Users are generally resistant to change.

But if I were starting a new forum I wouldn't use anything other than vBulletin 5. Nothing else comes close to doing what it does out of the box.

Then you would be starting a small hobbyist site or setting yourself up to fail, out of all the current products on the market vb5 is the absolute worst.

I think programmers don't get along with vbulletin 5 precisely because they don't let them get their hands on it. Vbulletin changed its business strategy where programmers made lite and pro plugins and put them out of work. You just have to install Vbulletin 5 and get to work on the content, not wasting time on thousands of mods that later is a huge job to update. All other forum brands allow programmers to post paid plugins in their forums instead vbulletin took the best of each and incorporated it directly leaving many unemployed. It is a more commercial issue than performance.

I have had my forum with more than 250,000 users and I have sold it to buy my house, now I am starting another one again always faithful to vbulletin since 2008. Notice how unprofessional are the programmers who leave the mods adrift without enter more and their websites are down. That's why stay in large companies that will give you continuity if you want a long-term project and only take care of the relevant content, everyone likes to put their hands but few write

vbulletin 5.6.3 is not for whiny programmers who switched to xenforo because there they may have more work, it is for editors who know how to post, so just install it, configure it and write. don't add anything else.

It seems to me that they have not yet learned from what happened with bvseo that being the most famous plugin overnight left us all hanging without support. So if you are not a professional programmer who can solve things alone, do not install anything from third parties. Stay with the original version that has everything you need and what you no longer have today is not relevant from an SEO point of view, even if many say otherwise.

Currently I am testing it, knowing that I have spent a long time with version 3 and version 4

The most popular forum right now is one that stole the entire concept of vBulletin 4 and updated the code to be modern. It's a decade plus old concept. To me, insisting on using something designed for the last millennium is setting oneself up for failure. Social media, like it or not, is here to stay. vBulletin 5 connects with all major social media seamlessly. Not one other forum product does that out of the box.

I really don't understand your position.
