Default Forum very slow

So I just had my site professionally installed from being hosted on VB's cloud platform to being self host on hostgators cloud servers. Installation was completed the other day and the tech that did it has been a big help.

My current issue is he says "the database speed is very very slow. While the AdminCP speed is reasonable, the main site isn't - and that's on simple things like page loads as well as updating data in the database. Also looking into tables in the database via phpMyAdmin is slow so it's not a vBulletin issue there."

I have contacted hostgator over this issue and they said that they have cleared the cache and to give it some time and that they have assigned an admin to look into the issue.

I don't feel overly confident that clearing the cache is going to solve the problem nor am I confident that they are going to resolve this without further guidance.

My question is, how can I fix the site from being slow? It is painfully slow loading. To the point that I don't think any users would ever stick around to wait for it to load to participate. Which entirely defeats the purpose for me.

I am not technically savy. But the site was running perfectly find on VB's cloud platform, so I believe that it should run perfectly fine on hostgators as well. How can I go about finding the issue?

Site in question is www.camarov6.com

Unfortunately you made the mistake to choose Hostgator as hosting company. They are absolutely terrible. You should avoid any hosting company that is owned by the "Endurance International Group". They buy hosting companies and then shred them to pieces to make more money and lower their spending costs.

The average vBulletin 4 and 5 forum should run just fine on a VPS with 1-2GB memory and PHP 7+.

With lower traffic is it not possible to run on a shared cloud hosting plan? What would cause the site to be slower vs running it on a VPS with 1-2gb memory?

I have PHP 7.3 currently

It's hard to say because Hostgator has extreme limitations and restrictions in place. Personally I would never host any site or forum on a shared hosting plan. A VPS should be the minimum and they are not that expensive these days.

I don't mind upgrading to a VPS if needed. But I don't blindly want to upgrade to one if it is not going to fix the problem because then it is just wasted money if it was not needed and leaves me in the same boat.

That is understandable but unfortunately only Hostgator knows exactly why your forum is slow, we can't really tell you what is going on and how to resolve the issue on your current hosting plan.

I've never had issues running vBulletin on a VPS or dedicated server on hosting companies not owned by EIG.

My experience with my forums at hostgator even on their VPS was some level of slowness at times, but more in the area of private message loading than in the forum. I am now at LiquidWeb on almost their highest level VPS and things are much faster, although still vbulletin 5's private message system always loads slower than say forum posts.

It ended up being an installation issue that has now been resolved. Since it was installed professionally by the VB team I can't comment on exactly what the issue was as it is over my head. All I know is that they mentioned something about one of my modules looking back several years and this was really slowing it down and causing an issue where my database was "gone away".

I am still able to run on the cloud hosting plan but will likely need to update to a VPS in the future.

You can mark this as a resolved issue.

Sounds like a bad plugin you had installed that caused it which isn't necessarily vBulletin's fault.
