Default Restoring attachments

Hello,

Here is the scenario.

A client has deleted his entire file system. I have a back up of the file system but the back was made before attachments were moved from the database to the file system.

Counters were never updated and the database was never repaired so in theory those attachments should still be on that database as overhead? Right?

Is there any way to switch back from serving the attachments from the file system to the database at this point?

Yes, ouch.. deleting an entire file system is not good.

Thanks!

Shouldn't the "Move attachments from database to filesystem" operation work just fine in this scenario?

I am trying to go the other way. The site is set to serve from the file system but those files have been deleted. They are still in the database though.

I know, it is very confusing. lol

Actually I think that worked. I just ran the process and it looks like the attachments were still there. Glad I did not update those tables!

So I just ran into something unbelievable. My client had godaddy transfer his site to a new server and they did not move the database. I did not even know until I went into phpadmin and found that there were no databases there..

Unbelievable. I do not think Godaddy looks at the config at all...They just move the files.

Looks like those attachments are gone after all..

I have also a question, with is similar with this...
We have a forum, where all attachments are in the database.

I want to download all attachments in our forum to a special folder on the server... where I also can then see, from which user this attachment is. Is there a workaround for this?

Thank you!

muffel, you should post a new thread about your question since what you want is totally different from the OP's post.

I answered my own question anyways. I basically wanted to know if it was possible to restore data from mysql overhead and it does not look possible.

If you serve your attachments from the file system they should already be in a folder.

If your files are in the database then move them to a new directory in your file system.
