Default [Request]Age Limit on the ppl allowed to register

Would someone be able to whip up the code for me, that checks to see if a new registrant meets a required age limit before they can complete registration?

Funtion:

Does calculation based on the users birthdate.
I'f older then the set age, registrant is able to complete the registration.
If younger then the set age, registrant gets a message saying they don't meet the required age, boot them too a different website, or sent to the coppa registration.(not sure what I want to happen just yet).

I sware I say this around the forum at one point, but it never got popular due to the fact that people can lie about thier age once they register. You would have to set up a credit card verification system to do that.

Yeah it would be far too easy to just lie. How many kids you know even do the COPPA registration?

Well would it be possible to ban the IP, username and email if they don't match the criteria?

"Light" solution:

Create a new userprofile field for age (or year of birth). Make this field required (and hidden in user profile if that's what you want). Apply Numeric Only User Profile Field Hack for this field. Set your board to approve new members before they're accepted and check the new users' age fields when they enroll. Ban, warn, dont accept, do whatever you want with ones who doesnt match your criterias

Regards,
Logician

It's almost always very obvious when a "kid" joins your forum because of their language and grammar. I hate it when kids join my forum because they usually make spam threads, are immature, rude, et cetera. Unfortunantly there isn't a way to age check, because--as stated above, they could easily lie. But I would still like to request a way to auto-reject any user who registers if they are below X years or below old. For me, I would use 14. If the user does lie, I can still easily find out their age (usually by their grammar, intelligence, contact them on AIM undercover ^_^). If I find their age is false, I easily have a reason to ban them.

So, any help? (I could probably figure this myself, but I'm so cut short on time right now in school and sports)

So you base a person age on how they write? Grammar? language?

Hate to be on your board.

Only 60% of the world speaks english (or has a limited understanding of the language). 20% of that 60% can write in English correctly (and I mean correctly). And these are grown adults.

I had a guy on my other board who "wrote" badly, but he was 35 years old. You'd thought that by his writing he was 13. Found out he had the IQ of 83. Can't wholy go on how they write, or speak, or their use of the most stupidest language in the world.

You seem to have misunderstood alittle, I'm not too sure where you got language part from, but I never mentioned that in my above post. If the person speaks another language you can be sure I wouldn't just flake them off, I'm a decent person and I can understand if somebody doesn't speak english well.

I don't know what it is..I really don't, I have a knack though for knowing peopls ages. Maybe its because I'm in AP English and I love to read and I'm probably the best writer in my class, but I just have a knack, not sure what to say of it, of knowing what someone's age is by reading their writings. If the person was 34 years old and their grammar was all horrible, I could still tell their age by the words used and the overall feeling from the thread. Other than if it were a 12 year old who wrote excellent grammar (which I have yet to come across on my forums, but its totally possible) I could still tell their age. From my experience on many many forums, I can tell usually if another person speaks another language, so its not as if I was blinded to reject somebody who spoke english horribly but might have been 17 years old. Anyway, before I get ahead of myself, I just wanna say I'm sorry for offended you if I have because I noticed your forums are also anime and the majority of the content is directed towards the younger viewers (dragon ball, pokemon, et cetera), and I'm sure some of those kids are young but speak perfectly. My forums, on the other hand, I like to direct towards the more mature anime, such as Kenshin or Cowboy Bebop. I just thought this hack would be a great way to filter out some of the ages, who in my opinion, shouldn't be exposed to the maturer animes anyway (12 or younger). These are great animes, and I like very mature discussions and sophisticated discussions on them, but once in awhile I get a member who is young and, not to mention, probably new to the web. This person will break the rules, such as spamming, and the moderators will warn them and explain to them whats right and not right. But more importantly, they will start topics on pokemon, or childish things (a recent one I deleted was "icecream is good", posted in the general anime section).

Anyway, this is getting long so I'll just end it here with saying I can probably create the hack myself over the weekend, and when I do I'll post it up in this thread.
