Moving Forum to New Server Which Has No Domain Name

I'm trying to move a copy of my forum over to a new server so that I can test it out before I make the final move.

My only problem is that the new server has no domain name linked to it yet so I am accessing it via IP only.

How can I export a copy of my current database to the new site with just an IP address for the name?

I tried turning off my live forum, changing the site name and forum url to http://XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX (the IP address) and then making a backup of the database but apparently when I try to import that database to my new server it errors out with the error code: ERROR at line 1: Unknown command '\_'.

Is there any way I can test my site at an IP address before I make the move?

Upload your database to your TMP file via FTP, create database. You should see the option to import via backup. If you still cannot import, call your host and ask them to import it to your newly created database.
Once that is complete, you will need to password protect your site so no one can see it but you to test.

Thanks for the response. I'm actually embarrassed to admit that the reason it wasn't working was because I forgot to unzip the gz file before trying to import it.
