Default PLEASE HELP!!!

I'm desperate My boyfriend used to deal with the server side and now we've split, i'm lost

I have my own server and need it setting up so i can install vB, however, i only have very very basic knowledge on Linux and usually just copy/paste what i need to do. I've been trying for the last 5days, but to no avail. I know how to actually install vB itself, but i need my server ready to accept it.

Can anyone help me please, either point me to a tutorial that is step by step for beginners, or help me install it and if its gonna cost me, how much? Please someone help, i'm at the end of my wits and ready to just give up

My server is fresh, so can install w/e OS is preferred.

Thanx

Very often your host can help you. I've always had my host get my server ready for use (install apache, php, mysql). Is none of that on your server yet?

It's a server from OVH (absolutely nothing on it), i've installed ubutnu 12.04, then installed Apache, mysql, and php and they are ok. However, when i pointed browser to ip/phpmyadmin i get 404 not found.

So i'm a bit kerfluffled

You first have to install phpmyadmin on the server using apt-get, then you will need to setup the vhost entry & restart apache.

You have to setup the vhost entry to use phpmyadmin, installing it doesnt give you access to it, once you setup the vhost entry, restart apache.

If your only going to use 1 site on it, just edit the default host & use it.

It sounds like you need a vps that is managed.

I would honestly recommend looking at someone like asmallorange or wiredtree and get one of their managed vps/cloud servers. Get it with cPanel and save yourself a ton of headaches.

Everything snakes said makes sense to me, though I can get a fresh ubunutu install up in about an hour to be ready for production.
