Add Posted From Statements Similar to VB4 for Mobile Apps
Hi All,
We're looking for anyone that may have done this already and could give some insight as to how to approach this. For a few vb3.8.7 sites we have in operation, we would like to implement a function similar to VB4 where there is added tag in the post bit to show where the post was submitted from. Such as "Posted from iOS App" etc. In this case, we would like to identify those using Forumrunner and Tapatalk. We have a large user base that utilizes these applications and we would like to help promote the use of these apps by identifying posts that originate from those applications. We have some ideas about how to implement this, but I thought I should ask the community first before approaching this mini-project. Thanks in advance for any information you could share. |

If you know how to detect when a user is posting from one of those apps, then it should be pretty easy. However, although I don't have any experience with mobile apps, I was under the impression that those "posted from" messages were added by the app as opposed to being added by the vbulletin software. (Edit: ...I suppose I could be wrong).

What I do like, is the way VB4 adds it as a part of the Postbit, in the same where where the reputation icon is. With VB3, I think it would look good added in the area where the time stamp is, maybe aligned to the right where the post permalink is. I'm going to try and mimick the method that vB4 uses and see if it will work effectively, by just polling the user agent when a user submits a post. Not sure, haven't really taken a deep look at the underlying code coming in through the Tapatalk and Forumrunner plugins. |
