Pesky Troll
Hi Folks,
I've got a problem on my forum where a troll is registering anywhere from 5-20 new names a day. Sometimes more. The usernames are always something obnoxious. The problem is this guy is using a proxy server and a different IP address every single time he visits the site. He always uses a fake email address so I know who it is. My mod team and I think that that since he can't post, etc. as I've turned just about everything off for the usergroup "waiting for email confirmation" it appears he is getting his kicks from being listed in the "new members" section as well as the "who's online" as new registrations even if not approved show up in the who's online list. I've turned off the "new members registered today" mod, but the who's online thing is a problem. I need to find a way to only list new registrations in the who's online that are approved. If I can do that I think this guy will take his ball and go play somewhere else. Any one know of a hack, mod, etc. or a way to solve this problem? It would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. :-) |

for now, maybe comment out the phrase that displays that in the template. maybe someone can give you details on how to do that.

Surely someone else has had this problem before?

No, I can't recall reading of anyone with a troll so dedicated they would go to the trouble of thinking up 5-20 new names every day just to annoy you. Are you sure you aren't just mistaking these for the latest crowd of human spammers we're all seeing?
Anyway, why don't you just turn off Who's Online viewing for Guests and Users Awaiting Email Confirmation? If he can't see his clever names then your theory will be put to the test. AdminCP>Usergroup Manager>edit group>Who's Online Permissions And maybe also: AdminCP>Settings>Options>Who's Online Options>Who's Online Display Guests |
