I've done this for login, though not for registration - I may do that shortly. I've written a brief tutorial on it (the tutorial was based on vB3 but shouldn't differ much for vB4):

I believe they want just the login and registration pages to use the https:// ssl cert url but not the entire forum.

This is done with htaccess.

The issue with a HTTPS redirection is that the login page will only show up when credentials are being sent to the page. This means that you have to modify the login form in the (headinclude?) template as well so that it will sent the credentials over HTTPS right away, else it kills the purpose of your HTTPS connection.

A redirection on the register/login page shouldn't be too hard, you can do that with a plugin bound to the global_start hook.

I have setup my forum to use SSL/HTTPS throughout the entire forum. I never tried to just redirect login/register to https though. When you use the regular "HTTP" on my site, my server redirects you to "HTTPS" on its own.

I did this with a "web.config" file (Windows Server 2008R2) with the Rewite_Module Rules. On linux its done with a ".htaccess" file. However, I forget the exact Rewrite Rules for ".htaccess" (Linux), so I can't help you there. But if you are on a Windows Based server, I could help you out with the "web.config" file if you like.

I don't think you are on windows though, since most people use Linux as their server OS. I was going to use Linux, but I didnt want to pay all that money for cPanel, since I own my own dedicated server. lol
