I have used the hack that removes the redirect pages that you get when searching, posting.....etc.
I was wondering why they were there in the first place? Is there a server load penalty by removing these pages - I guess they could act as a 1 second breather for the server. Please let me know, as I am trying to reduce server load on my site and if removing this hack will help, I would be willing to do it. Thanks |

actuallt it allows cookies to take effect
![]() when the cookies are set they won't take effect until the next time the page is reloaded. ie You type in username / pass click login it then sets the cookies and thanks you for logging in, and then it takes you to the new page and the cookies have now taken effect. |

So what about the intermediate pages between posting and being taken back to the post? What does this do?

those are just to inform the user that there post may not appear as it requires to be moderated.
Most of the intermediate pages are there just as a pleasantry and they add less than a kb on to your bandwidth. I keep them as it would confuse users who post a thread and then get taken to the forumdisplay and there thread isn't there. |

It's funny.
Not having them is one of my favorite things about vB3. ![]() I wish there was a list of the ones that could be harmlessly removed. I know in PHP, I've had to have redirect pages if I didn't use sleep or some other command to wait for PHP to finish moving/writing files, etc. Otherwise my image upload scripts often did not immediately list a file that was just uploaded. |

I've removed redirection from my forums for well over 6 months now with no ill-effects. The only confusion comes from sending PMs - users like to know that it's been successful.
