I am currently in dispute with a theme coder. at the time the theme was installed.
it was installed on VB 4.0.8 and since then I now have VB 4.1 - The theme has errors. 90-99 validation/html errors 9 warnings unable to see private messages (coder left out of theme, coder error) Missing Images thoughout the entire theme (coder error) Explaination points that popup randomly during the posting process...(error unknown) The coder is trying to blame everything on me because he designed this on 4.0.8 and wants me to downgrade back to 4.0.8 in order to do testing, which I am not really sure how to do anyway...I have themes that are less then 4.0.8 and run with no issues, I have mods clear back to 4.x with no issues, but he is insisting that I am using 4.1 and that is the reason all these errors exist... I do not believe that statement at all...the minor difference is so slim that there should be almost no errors if any regardless. What do you guys think? Do you really think a difference like this would produce this many errors, or do you think it is just bad coding? |

Well without seeing anything it would be tough to tell anything...
The validation errors though, would not be caused by an upgrade to 4.1 The only real way to 'downgrade' would be to install 4.0.8 on a test board and see if there are any errors. Now with that said...did you receive any of these errors before upgrading? Or did you just install the theme on 4.1? |

upgrading concerning other themes, so I did not think this would be any different. I did not really start testing util after 4.1 was installed, now he is trying to say its my fault for upgrading... I guess if It is comes down to it, then I can use one of my empty domains and setup 4.0.8 to test the theme, but I doubt it is going to make any difference, I thought i would ask someone that knows more about themes and vb upgrades more then I do.... |

There are numerous changes from 4.0.8 - 4.1 in the style system. Not saying it is the cause of your validation but I have design some pretty basic styles that work fine with 4.0.8 but are a complete mess in 4.1. Actually I had to re-make one style from the ground up.
Anyhow why cant the designer just update the style? Also its always a good idea to have a test board setup to mimic your live site so you can see what these upgrades do to things without damaging your live site. The style system to date is still changing with each vB update. The big change though was from 4.0.8 - 4.1 |

![]() You mean 4.0.7 --> 4.0.8 yeah? There weren't that many from 4.0.8 --> 4.1 Maybe a handful of templates. Whereas with 4.0.8 there were tons of stylevar changes from 4.0.7 |

When you upgraded to 4.1.1, I'm sure a bunch of those style templates show up as needing upgrading/reverts. Did you upgrade any of them?

No I meant 4.0.8 as 4.0.7 wasn't even being discussed here. There were enough to break certain styles. 4.1 Templates - http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php/367890-vBulletin-4.1-Now-Available?p=2080839&viewfull=1#post2080839 4.1.1 Templates - http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showt...=1#post2092580 A good bit more than a handful, yeah? ![]() |
