Emailing all users when there is a post in specified forum?

I'm just toying with the idea of a local board for freecycling in my community,and one feature that's very important is emailing users when new stuff is posted or wanted etc.

I've been looking through all the settings but haven't used vB in quite some time.

Is there a way to set a certain forum to send an email to all users, whenever any post is made in that particular forum?

The reason for this is, as part of the groups I'm in, when someone wants to give something away, they post to the group, which is then emailed to every user of the group so everyone can see whats being offered. The same applies basically to any post of the group.

I want to expand on this with a message board but the instant notification to all users is important. It's basically a mailing list.

the group has two options, instant notification, and daily digest which would send out every post from the day, at the end of the day.

There is no option to send out a notice instantly everytime there is a new post in a forum. You may want to look through the mods section and see if anyone has written a modification to do this.

yeah I've been looking for a bit now. I can't seem to find anything like that, but it's critically important and the board would fail without it.

There are only two forums that need this instant notification. I wonder how hard it would be to do this.

ok, actually what I really need is just the ability to be notified instantly of posts if a user is subscribed to the forum, and the option somewhere to have all new users set as subscribed to the forum by default.

it's really just adding another option to the forum subscription options.

You could use your forums RSS feed to get instant notifications of new post in a particular forum.

that is planned, but I cant expect the users to actually use them.

Basically they want to register, and get emails right away when new things are posted or taken. I just put a mod request in the unpaid forum, It doesn't seem like it would be hard to mod it in. But I haven't used vB since 3.8.1 was brand spanking new.
