Usergroup choice on registration

I had a mod like this for my old phpbb board. I would like a user to be able to choose a usergroup to join via a dropdown box upon registration. They would *have* to make a selection (one of the choices could be None, which would default them to Registered Users).

The usergroup they choose would be their default and not secondary usergroup. I would love to see this mod made.

Edit: I see one was made for 3.7 in which case it just needs ported!

There is a modification somewhere that will assign a usergroup based on a profile field.

Yeah I edited my original post right after I wrote it. But that mod is for 3.7
