Does anyone else think the auto-merge double post 'feature' stinks?
I appreciate what it's 'trying' to do but sometimes you add new/relevant information to an existing question and the thread doesn't get bumped to the top/marked as unread again even though the entire situation may have changed and warrants being re-read by those interested in it. If not interested then skip over it- in the end this is software about making posts- don't take the fundamental basic principal of vB away... at the very least this should be disabled in the discussions and mods sections... maybe there is use for it in an OT section, and that is only a maybe.

In my opinion that is a very handed and much needed option in support forums. Especially after seeing how many people don''t follow the rule of not bumping their posts/threads unless 24 hours have passed. If you have additional important info to add, you can edit your original or last post and add that info there rather bumping your thread. It is not about not being interested in reading and skipping it as you put it, but it is about following the rules At least that is how I see it.
I like it. I understand it isn't ideal in your particular case, but there are quite a few users who feel the need to bump their threads after just two or three hours of no reply and this stops those threads from being bumped and I am thankful that they don't show up in my list of unread threads again.
oh well... it's a sucky situation to have to administer to the lowest common denominator but if it's that big of an issue with people bumping posts I will defer to you guys.

Agreed, Patience is after all supposedly a virtue right?
