I have a style that i've uploaded.
Since using it I have edited and changed various settings and now a bug update is available (new XML) Since I want to take advantage of the fixes, is there any way I can do this? I've been pointed to use a child style, but after further investigation I don't think this is going to do what I want (unless I'm not understanding correctly) So far I've done a little testing on my spare setup. Created a child of my customised style, uploaded the new XML but this overwrote the child test changes I did (so that's a no go). I then started again by changing some bits in the parent and uploading the new XML to the child style, this leaves the parent customised and the child using the new xml (but again this is no good since the changed feed down). Another suggestion was to compare how child with the parent to see what's been changed but I can't find that option. I really am stuck here and need help please. |

You need to download the xml of your customised version to your PC, then download a copy or WINMERGE, using winmerge you can do a side-by-side comparison of your customised xml with the new updated xml.
The methods you have been trying will not have worked and can never work, think of the child style in the way of actual children, you cannot have a child before a parent, the parent is always the style already on your system (database) the child is always added to the existing parent style (on your database) |
