Did you try a search? It seems this gets asked every other day and has been answered a few times already.

OK, well I found more than one way to add buttons... but I have yet to see how to change what they (the existing ones) say or change their order.

vB uses phrases for text, so what they say can be changed in the phrase manager (for instance, search for Home > phrase text only > exact match will get you the phrase called "site" to change).

The order has definitely been talked about - the Home and Blog tabs are plugins, so you may change the hook used in the plugin and the others are all in the navbar template.
