Total vBulletin newb wants to have a home page with news items pulled from VB
Hi everyone. As the subject suggests, I am a total VB newb. What I'm asking for is probably really simple, but I could use some help getting pointed in the right direction. I've tried doing some initial searching to find an answer myself but I'm not sure exactly how to phrase it to get the results I want.
I've bought a copy of vBulletin 3.8.4. I know that it's 4.0 that has the CMS functionality in it, and that this isn't available as a component of 3.8.4. Basically, I'd like to have a system where when someone goes to the root domain of my site (www.mysite.com for example), it looks kind of like vbulletin.org: Recent news items posted by the site staff would appear in the middle of the page, and on the sides there'd be a poll and maybe some small advertisements. The key is that I'd want it to share the same basic theme/style as the forums and ideally show the forums menu and login at the top of the page. Going through the admin controls on vBulletin, I can't seem to find anything that would control such a feature. Is it some sort of mod that I can download? Thanks. |

with the new 4.0 suite you'll have this option
or you can use vbadvanced to do the same thing |

I unfortunately can't get VB4 to install. Like a fair amount of other people apparently, it times out during the import process on step 7.
I checked out vbAdvanced and it's pretty sweet. Thanks a lot. |

really? I've set it up 3 times now on 3 different severs and never had a problem.
I'd suggest opening a support ticket, there is no reason why vb4.0 shouldn't install easily. |
