Is it possible to insert your own custom images to let you know if there is a new post in a forum? I'm referring to the bar on the very left side of the forum.

Yes, you can for this or for all the images on your forum. You must to clic with the right button in the image you want to change and you will see something like this:

http://www.yourforum.com/images/statusicon/forum_old.gif

Now you replace by FTP the same name of the image ... F5 key and that's it.
