The vbulletin style that we use doesn't have a background for the login area (top right) nor the navigation text (in the top left, below the logo).

Only the plain black text is visible.

We want to keep using the current style, but restore the background to those two areas.

Could you folks please tell which part of the template needs to be edited and what code to add?

You'll have to look in the page source and find what class is being applied to those areas and then go to your Main CSS and change the css for that class. I always use the firebug add-on in firefox to easily find the classes for elements.
