Posts get cut off when a user uses a Apostrophes from a Word file

Hi people,

We have a bug on our forums which cuts off posts when a user copy and pastes from a word or pages (mac) file! So the post gets placed until the user puts in a ' somewhere.. For instance with the word "don't". Any idea how this is possible?

Mixed character collations with mysql, probably mismatched between connection and the db character collation type.

Wooow.. that sounds cool but what can I do to fix the problem?

You will need to view the mysql "show variables;"

character_set_client: latin1 <--
character_set_connection: latin1 <--
character_set_database: latin1 <--
character_set_filesystem: binary
character_set_results: latin1
character_set_server: latin1 <--
character_set_system: utf8

Compare those and make sure they aren't mis-matched

I think this is the same problem I encountered a while ago.

For me, changing the character set to UTF-8 fixed it.

You can change it here: Admin CP -> Languages & Phrases -> Language Manager -> [Edit Settings] -> HTML Character Set

Glad to hear it!

I was completely stumped on that one, and only figured it out after comparing answers in two or three different threads on vBulletin.com. I'm not sure if there's any adverse affect in changing the charset to UTF-8, but since the change allows people to paste from Word etc., I'm not complaining yet.
