hello there all,
I have a small forum with about 500 projected members some old Friends some just acquaintances. what i wish to do is have the default group joined upon registering be a user with restricted privileges. after a set amount of time or a set number of posts this member will be let into the inside club. i need to know what is the default group a new user goes into and if i create a trusted user category with better forum access will that work? and how is this best accomplished without breaking stuff thanks ![]() |

Normally users, after they have confirmed email (if you have that set), will end up in the Registered Usergroup, usergroup 2. You may set a Promotion to move them to a new Primary Usergroup after x posts or y days and then give this new Primary Usergroup more permissions or more forum access. I believe the manual covers this - it is a link in my sig and also up in the Quick Links dropdown.

just knowing the group number helps enormously Lynne as do you!
i will read the manual again but my brain gets overloaded sometimes by the sheer force of the new stuff I'm absorbing, hence this noobish op. thanks again and that solves it. Jerome |

When you create a new usergroup, you can copy the permissions, both usergroup and forum, from another group. So, you can make a Trusted Usersgroup by copying the Registered Usergroup permissions and then go back and take some permissions away from the Registered Usergroup, or add some permissions to the Trusted Usergroup.
