Side Bar or Positioning

Hello,
i want to create a custom User-Sidebar for my forum.
Would it be easier and quicker to use any modification (like this: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=204773) or can i easily create and position a sidebar with the vbulletin options?

are there good tutorials to do this or is the vbulletin documentation sufficient
