need some development help

I'm working on a Business Directory/Yellow pages addon for vb and I'd like to have a Category manager display something similar to how the forum manager displays. Is there anything someone can suggest I look at?

What type of db table stucture would all this. Right now I have a self-referential table where I have Parent and Child categories in the same table. Would this work?
