Showing Social Groups Subscriptions at top of Search Results page (or similar)

I had been using the Social Forums mod, so my users had gotten used to having their groups with replies showing on their search page. Now that it doens't happen, some of them are "forgetting" to check for new posts. I am wondering if someone could direct me on how to edit the search_results template to:

1. Check to see if the member is subscribed to any discussions
2. If the member is subscribed, check to see if any of their subscriptions have new replies since last time
3. If there are new replies, show them at the top of the search results page (like a separate box with those results, followed by the other search results below)

This would only apply to the "New Post" or "Today's Posts" searches, and not the keyword or other searches.
