Default How did you teach your teenagers how to drive

Ok well any members who are parents can probably relate to the hell I'm going through now with my kids and learning to drive. LOL I have two teens ready to start drving, 15-16 boys, and already they are driving me nuts. First day, we drove around the neighbor with my 16 year old who has such a lead foot and he hits a mailbox. I swear I must have yelled at him for ten straight minutes.

My daughter was nothing like this.

Urgggggg.. Anyone else care to share on this topic or join me for a Martini or TEN! LOL

Thanks

Gabby

We have a place up in Idaho that has a private road. All of our kids have driven down that road and the roads that go off of it several times - pre 16. We just went through getting a license for my oldest boy. I actually had to push him to do it. I knew he was gonna have to take some classes at the local Jr. College for his senior year in HS, so I really wanted him to drive himself. I pushed him to get his permit and then either my husband or I would take him two times a week driving. We also signed him up for a driving course. He finally got his license on his 17th birthday.

With my youngest, I've been worried! However, his 15.5 birthday came and went and he never said anything about a permit. His 16th is coming up and he still hasn't mentioned driving. So, I am not mentioning it to him either. He's a mini-me and I'm worried about him getting his license and wanting to go off all the time to who knows where!

Let him drive on some old logging roads. Those pine and oak trees do not move like a mailbox does.

LOL I wish I had some old roads near me but I'm in a subburban area. We just got back from an empty parking lot and what does he do?.... He has the **** to take a cell phone call from his girlfriend right when I'm trying to teach him this. Needless to say, the phone is in a few hundreds pieces nwo. Dang I was so ticked. He also grounded now and has no computer or cell phone privledges. Oh it's going to cost me 250 bucks to replace my neighbor's mailbox!

Can someone send me a truck load of chocolate or Valium? LOL

...... His father can deal with this.

You're in Florida right? Just take him out to the Everglades. There are remote roads out there.

I haven't taught my son how to drive. He is 17 but just doesn't care to get his license and I am tired of pressuring him to do so. Anyway, when I learned how to drive, we lived fairly remote so it wasn't a big deal and I had been driving my parent's cars since I was 10 (without their knowledge) so it wasn't that bad. However one time, my father took me to a large supermarket parking lot before they opened. This was before we had 24 hour stores in the area. You can make a lot of courses and teach control using all those spaces and white lines. Just have to find a large parking lot that isn't for a 24 hour store.

Im not teaching them - they can pay and learn to drive in their own time like i had to.
Lazy sods - kids want it all on a plate these days. Will do them no harm to stand up in the big world and defend for themselfs.Let them get a job and budget each week to pay for their driving lessons.

I paid for driving lessons from my own money... money that i've made doing vB chores
However, my dad taught me things that idiotic driving instructor didn't learned me... and SURPRISE, at the exam, i really needed those things.
