Forum problems
Hi All,
I am experiencing some major problems with my forums and do not even know how to search the internet for a solution. A problem that I have been noticing is that my forum seems to revert back to several days ago and eliminates the posts from the last several days. Then it magically comes back. I am running a bran new vbulletin installation that I will be importing from a Punbb. The funny thing is my current punbb also does the exact same thing as the Vbulletin forum. So is it the forum software not really sure. I also have noticed that when someone posts in the old forum for example today. That when the forum reverts to show the posts from the last several days the post from today does not show up. Two things have changed that may be possibilities for causes. One I upgraded to PS on dreamhost. I also had installed mySQLdump, but have removed it and it still does the same. Since I have not been monitoring my forums and been in development I do not know if I can correspond it to the new server. I also had been messing with Xcache on the server and had GZIP problems enabled in vbulletin and somehow the server was too. But eliminated that. Please someone help me. I have had complaints from my current forum and as it stands upgrading to vbulletin which I am working on will not eliminate that either. I am currently running 3.7. Here is the link to both of my forums if it helps. http://www.machinetoolhelp.com/forum and my Vbulletin forum http://cncforums.machinetoolhelp.com/ Please help me on this one. |

This sounds like a server issue to me. Have you contacted your host for help with this issue? You may want to post over on vb.com in the Server Configuration forum and post all the details of your server and see if they know what the cause of this issue may be.

One more thing to. When it reverted back in vbulletin, if I logged in to the admincp and looked at the custom header code. It did not have the modification of adding a picture in it. But after an hour maybe I went back to look at it and the forum returned to normal. Also when I logged in again to admincp the custom header code for that picture was there. I will try your suggestion on this. Also my host is Dreamhost. I have been in constant contact with them though they are responding much less and can not seem to find anything yet.
Thanks |

Definitely a hosting issue, I'm not sure dreamhost is an ideal hosting company for vBulletin, i'd suggest seeking around and finding a more suitable one.

Not to get off topic because I switched not to long ago and really want to get this worked out quickly because switching in a pain, especially since I do not do this all for a living. FRDS what is your suggestion for hosting companies. I know from research that some are bad at times and all have problems and complaints, but I'd like your 2 cents worth.
Any suggestions to help out dreamhost to proove what is happening and such. Thanks |

Thanks FRDS
Ok I found a pattern for you guys to troubleshoot further. MYSQL databases also correspond to the pattern for each version as well. Sounds silly but the last User ID/members show up in one and not the other. I Checked about every 5 or 10 minutes with a refresh. Here is what happened. Looks like every 50minutes or so it changes Before 6:50 (version 1) 6:50 forum changed to version 2 7:45 forum changed to version 1 8:35 forum changed to version 2 9:28 forum changed back to version 1 |

It still looks like an issue with the host. What have they said?

Sounds like switching between 2 servers or databases somehow. This is for sure something your host should address. The simple fact that it happens in both vB & PunBB already is a strong indication that it is not software related.
