my post is 194 megs, post index is 206. The database alltogether is ~500.
bluehost.com, despite having helped me upload the database (470 megs) about 3 months ago, is now telling me they won't restore my site unless its smaller. A) what can I do to decrease the db (without pruning half the goddamn forums) b) anyone know a good RELIABLE host? They were awesome til this happened.... recently my site was linked to from yahoo news, we got mega traffic.... but they managed to keep it online. This was on saturday. Now, being wednesday - traffic levels are re-settling themselves.... and they decide to shut me down today of all times? They cite that "Your web hosting account for armageddononline.org has been deactivated (reason: site causing performance problems)." Did I just outgrow them... like literally with 1 link from yahoo? seems kind of irrational to shut somone down 4 days after the boom. Seems to me like I'm being targeted. I know it's shared hosting, but they advertise UNLIMITED RESOURCES and UNLIMITED SPACE.... and never once brought up my DB size til I started generating decent traffic. HELP |

Did they say it was purely the database size?
Performance issues could also be server load (perhaps you have a bunch of inefficient mods or plugins that are hammering your server down. If this is the case consider removing some of the less important ones. Your database size is pretty much relational to the amount of posts you have..if you're not willing to prune those then you won't see major differences. You could clear adminlog and moderator log if that data isn't of particular use to you. They can grow pretty large in size. |

1- ANY host offering unlimited hosting is just bullshit, you have to understand that... the universe itself is not unlimited, so why would be a hosting service...
2- switch to a Dedicated server on a SERIOUS host... stop searching for rebates. 3- use FullText instead of default setting of your old engine... FullText will be smaller, and faster. |

overuse of resources, based primarily on forums loads. Like i said, we had a direct link form news.yahoo.com on saturday.... but didnt get axed til today.
Aside from pruning stuff I don't see an option, and thats not what I want to do. I dont use to many hacks/plugins/mods... they are worried about the size of post and post index..... which I guess, there is no work around for? Also i read a FAQ on here about setting up vbulletin for larger amounts of traffic, and subsequently changed all those settings. Do you really thing I need dedicated hosting? The site is based on DISASTERS. So if nothing is happening around the world.... traffic is fairly flatline / unspectacular. It's preparing for them that is the pain in the ass, cause we can go from 5000 unique hits a day to 50,000+... it normally levels back out within a week..... |

make sure your attachments aren't in the database, along with signature pics, avatars, and profile pics.
Check out the modification called vBOptimize here at vB.org it seems to save a few queries per page. Also, yes it does sound like you've out grown shared hosting, at the very least you need a VPS to ensure fast loading pages and not have to worry about getting shut down if your linked to from a popular site. |

Post table contains post information. I don't see how there would be any workaround for this. Simple, to make this smaller, delete posts.

I am with bluehost too. Actually I signed on with Hostmonster, and Bluehost bought them out. I NEVER had problems with hostmonster. 4 years of flawless website upage. Bluehost bought them out then it was ALL downhill after that, and my sites not even that big.
I originally had phpbb and coppermine, with ONLY 300+ members and they killed my site with the same reason. site causing performance issues. So I purchased vbulletin and photopost, and after we hit like 40 members I got shut down again, some reason stating the slow database queries were causing bad system performance and they wouldnt turn it back on. I ended up buying ANOTHER account JUST FOR The forum/gallery and leaving my store on its own account. Crappy solution but it works so far. Granted my site is TINY.... My dads webdesign company exclusively uses jumpline because they have EXCELLANT service, but they are pricey. Have you looked into getting a host that offers TRUE dedicated servers? moral of my story --- BLUEHOST BLOWS! |

I've been very happy with fluidhosting, you might check them out.
It sounds like you just need to upgrade your hosting |

Yes sir
![]() But I will point out that this website of mine is somewhat.... 'unique' if you will. I know sites go like roller coasters sometimes and can spike traffic.... but it's always that way for my site. I can go from an average 3-6000 unique hits on a monday, to server max outs and crashes wednesday, with like 50,000-80,000+ uniques easy. The site follows disasters... if not much is happening, the traffic levels off... but as soon as something sparks it, it gets outta control. Problem is this - It can go a month or 3 or more with flat out leveled off traffic. It averages out, it always has... the problem is the spark. Should I just pay for more expensive hosting as a backup? I don't think I've outgrown 'em... they ran really good since i signed up in october. Is a site with 3-6,000 uniques per day and like 10-15k page loads maxed out horribly on a shared server? Or did yahoo just PWN bluehost so bad they had no choice? Also - I was offered the bluehost HIGH CPU server - anyone got any advice on this? |
