So, I'm looking for help. The majority of my forum goers wish to have image tags disabled, the problem is, I can't seem to find an option to do so. I tried checking in both the usergroup permissions and the vboptions -> bbcode section, but I can't find a way to turn them off? Did I miss something?

Did you know they can turn images off in their User CP > Edit Options > uncheck "Show Images (including attached images and images in [IMG] code)"

Yeah, they're aware of that. The majority of the staff wanted to disable them completely however. Myself, I don't think it's a huge deal, but, you give the people what they want.

The only way I know to do it is by turning off bbcode, which gets rid of a lot more than just the image tags. Or, you can go into the Attachment Permissions and disallow usergroups to use them. That won't get rid of the images already there though.

Would there be a way to both change [img] to something else, and then remove the image tag button from the reply/quick reply boxes then?

You can't change the default bb codes in the acp, but if you find where it is stored you might be able to do a manual edit.

Yeah, just do a search in the files for [img] and I'm sure you'll find the php files it is used in. You may cause other problems though, like with other plugins that use it. I know though since I've never done that.

The specific files are in the forum directory '/includes' and they are class_bbcode.php and class_bbcode_alt.php. They're commented so you should be able to see what does what.
Quickly browsing through the file class_bbcode.php I noticed a function handle_bbcode_img. It returns the string with the bbcode parsed. If you remove the contents of the function, and just leave the return, whenever the function is called it should just return what is supplied. This would leave [img] codes visible but keep images from showing. If you know how to use preg_replace you could strip the [img] tags so they don't appear at all. I've only glanced at this function for about 10 seconds, so don't make any decision without checking it through yourself first! Backup the files before you remove anything though. |
