I was actually agreeing with you that this is a fun thing to do.

As for closing the thread, Marco addressed that issue all ready.
Without this going back and forth, I never mis-read your post, you just never explained yourself. You stated "2 days" "200 uploads" "break" without quoting you too much and this becoming a long winded reply. It's also irelevant whether you liked the idea or not as marco already made his point clear.

I gave a good explanation on why this would be a good additon, infact, all my suggestions are good but here we are now debating about mis-read posts and that you thought it was just a good idea which you never actually said that it was a good idea. It was just a thought and last time I checked I can't read minds but I can read clear cut text.

That's enough for me, the thread is going nowhere and see no sense in pursuing this any further with the suggestion not being entertained or even discussed with the rest of the staff.

Just like many times before, you are jumping to conclusions again. Nowhere has it been said that staff is not discussin the idea or has it turned down. All what have ben said until now have been personal opinions, or me mentioning (at that point of the discussion) that we tend not to see the benefits of this idea yet.

You might want to look at king Kovifer last statement in the link i provided, Closed thread on authors request marco. Judging by your last response to me stateing you don't close threads without special reasons. I'm not saying I'm special but there is another good reason which makes...3 now.

Shelley you're clearly being difficult now. It's getting old.

Being realistic Dean. Without the need in wasting anyones time (which mine was creating this thread) and writing out that long winded explanation shouldn't be mistaken for being difficult. We both know how this suggestion will pan out. We'll see and I can then say "I told you so". There's nothing difficult about bettering this place without being classed as trolling, being difficult or otherwise.

If the desired answer isn't given, it is not a reason enough to close a thread. Best not to speculate why or why not threads are closed; if a thread shouldn't have been closed members can contact the Admins to resolve it. So lets move on from that.

Back to the topic at hand...

I would tend to agree with Marco's statement:

I think the avatars you've created are very cute and well done, why not just add them to a graphics thread like you've done with the "google" icons? Another thought would be to create a thread in the requests area where you can customize them and add a range of items and emotions to them. Then members can upload for use.

Just a thought...

It should be noted that the only reason the pre-defined avatars exist here is due to the merger with vBt. The avatars were brought over to avoid breaking old vBt accounts.

I'm not going to chime in on the suggestion because I use custom avatars anyway.

ooh, I like your new avatar.

anyway, back on topic. ooohh I really like your new avatar brad.

Edit: That explains the reason why the current pre-defined avatars are there in the first place.

First time I'd ever seen the pre-defined avatars on here. Are we allowed use them as predefined avatars on our sites or did the copyright owners just waive their copyright for vb.org?

It would be a nice gesture to maybe use some original ones in there. Build bridges not barricades.

Uhhh as far as I know no they did not waive the copyright. To understand why those avatars are there you have to understand a little bit about the history of this site. Long story short there used to be a site by the name of vBulletintemplates.com that was owned by Saintdog, and I assume he added those avatars when he launched it because they match the old vBt style. This site became an official Jelsoft site at some point and later on the user accounts from that site were imported in to vBulletin.org. To avoid breaking all the accounts that use the pre-defined avatars we added them here during the merger (well they wouldn't be broken but they would have a red X under their usernames).

As far as adding new avatars submitted by the user base; I'm not against the idea but I can see how it can create a problem for the people that run this site. Sure if you just have a hand full of users submitting avatars it's no big deal..but what about 10, 20, 30, 40? Will these designers have requests like having their name in the footer of this site? Are the willing to hand the copyright of the images over to Jelsoft?

It opens a can of worms that someone is going to have to take the time to manage. So it's easier to just not accept any work rather than managing all the submissions that may or may not come in.

Would I run my own ship with such a mindset? Probably not...but then again I don't have a million+ users to support.
