PSD Attachments
Any reason why staff see fit in not allowing .PSD Attachments into the image database?

you can zip the file(s)
(it's quicker to download; end-user happy) |

Well I'm not happy. I'm the one zipping them up. So the contributor isn't happy. Sure it works if you are releasing styles and have multiple PSDs. And who states that the end user needs to be happy? Can't the person submitting the PSd be happy also by a certain admin.
You lot really love making the graphic contributors work. Again, goodwork and 3 cheers for progress. End user my ass. |

Shelley, aren't you already zipping up the non-psd graphics? Can't you just throw the psds in that zip file?

This is the one reason I personally never want to implement a suggestion on forums I have had in the past. Sarcastic comments just turn me away from a suggestion. It may help if you refrain from doing so here.

You might want to focus on the suggestion in the first post and skip the rest. Anyway, Zipping single psd files is simply overkill. possibly.
Suggestion: instead of focusing on the |end user| you may want to focus on the people that contribute. |

Posting sarcasm after the first post also doesn't help.

Shelley, one good reason for zipping the files is so you can include a text file with the download that states clearly who the artist was (and possibly where it was obtained). If you allow just psds to be uploaded, then the person may not also be keeping track of where the file was obtained and who made the graphics in the first place. At least, that would be my main reason to not allow just psds - I think a text file should be included with the download.

You state the obvious Lynne, I'm not arguing against that, so why not give the option for only psd extensions for the contributors who don't include txt files with attachments that are already included within the post? I just don't fancy uploading the .gif .png files then upload the archived psd file when it can be done in a single seperate (without archiveing it)effort free process . Anyway, that is my argument mainly because i like to be partially lazy and upon clicking the PSd attachment it can be loaded directly to photoshop rather than go through the download, unzipping and finding the file process. One last question. Why is it you allow .xml files? They can be archived but yet you allow this, you've given the coders the option and that is what I am asking also a share of the cake. |

I guess I'm coming from someone who downloads a lot from the internet. I like my files to always have a text file to state where I got the download and who put the download together (my downloading is mostly music, so I like the text file with the taper and lineage and checksums to be included with the flac files so when I archive them, I know everything about them). If I were the graphic artist, I think I would probably want to include that info when someone downloaded something of mine so they could always go back to the site for help or a request later on or be able to find me somehow if needed (but I am definitely *not* a graphic artist, so who knows). However, I guess a text file with that information is not required here, so perhaps my bias against allowing just a psd is invalid.
If I'm reading your post correctly, are you suggesting only including a psd file and not including any gifs or pngs or jpegs so it is up to the user to Save for Web from the psd file? I can see that being messy with some of the users around here. |
