server load phpbb
I have a forum with a lot of posts and traffic. It is currently in phpbb3 which I migrated last year from phpbb2. The traffic is about to expand many times over. I have it setup on two servers so that the DB has more processing power and there is less single server load. There is a slight performance hit running through the switch but it is pretty negligible and overall performance is much better this way.
I have heard that vb is much better than phpbb3 in terms of server load. Is there any documentation here or maybe on a tech site where this has been benchmarked? I'm thinking to move it over to vb but I want to make sure it is a good move in terms of performance before I commit to it. |

I'm not sure of any actual benchmarks, but i can tell you that vBulletin definitely runs better (especially under optimum server configs) from personal experience.
Also, it runs super smooth when you split the DB server and Apache server. I never had to run phpBB under those conditions (split servers) so I can't exactly comment on its performance then. |

wouldn't everything run better if ran "under optimum server configs"
it really depends on the amount of hacks and hacking you do to your forum.. vBulletin is a paid script, it will obviously run better then a free one. There are plenty of big boards running vbulletin, as well as many running phpbb.. It's really on personal prefrence, you can run a successful site with phpbnb, but I would sure rather update a vBulletin forum, vs a phpbb one, that's for sure |
