I doubt it will ever be more than a pet project with a focus on developers who want a featureless browser. None of Google's downloadable software projects have ever reached a majority of users, even their toolbar. The only reason the toolbar has any kind of market penetration is because its bundled into many application installs, some without the option to skip installation of the toolbar, ala spyware like.

Right now, Chrome is nowhere near serving the needs of the average internet user. Its sort of like how Linux was 10 years ago on usability.

Firefox isn't under the GPL actually. Its Open Source but has its own license. This isn't an anti-opensource stance though.

What about Google Earth?
The Google Earth software is a failure as well. The Google Maps service on the Web is a definite success. There may seem like a small distinction between the two but it is there. Most people use Google Maps in their every day life these days. Often without knowing it. However when is the last time you talked to anyone who had Google Earth installed on their PC?

What will happen with Chrome though is that Google will put a decent feature or two in it eventually. These will be copied by software developers who actually have marketshare and could change some things in how software works. Who knows, they might add something that makes it to the desktop of the different OSes. However Chrome itself will probably languish in obscurity.

I think I installed Google Earth when it came out.. touched it once. I guess it's fun to play around with, but who has time to play?

It doesnt matter, their intent was established by the original EULA. That is enough for me.

I installed to try out. Did not like it compared to FF3. It was not faster than FF and that is what my primary concern was. FF has all the Web tools that I want NOW. So I uninstalled it. The tone of the request for a reason why I un-installed was menacing. I think most wont take the time to install it over their IE and if they do install something, it will be FF.

I like the homepage that shows the pages you've been to and it's pretty light on the memory use but at the same time, no plugins or frills. Even the right-click leaves much to be desired.

Why is there no integration with any Google services?
