Default Harsher registration process?

<div align="left">Because recently, I've seen all these spam bots get past the registration captcha and spam advertisements for phones and the like, so have vBulletin.org thought of either customising the captcha to make it harder to beat, or used question and answer verification for the new member form?

Just saying, because I haven't seen them on many other forums and what not, so maybe ask something vBulletin related rather than general to keep them out?

Its quite funny I read an article on Captcha that was written just the other day: Captcha has failed: What next?

Its off topic I know but

You get the bots/spammers on every forum anyway. Just probably most other forums have either a moderation queue for new users or their moderators pick them up a lot quicker.

Theese spammers are on many forums and still post wherever/whenever they can you just don't see it as much because admins are a little faster in getting to threads than they are on org. I know from experience my forum was flodded on a daily basis and I was forced to become unlazy and clamped down using spam prevention tactics and tougher registeration followed by link restrictions per post count amongst other stuff.

Just takes the hard working staff here a little longer to get around to it which results in members seeing alot more spamming threads though with the help of us dedicated members we are more than happy to use that dreaded report button even if it does get us into trouble every now and again.

I don't like captcha either, partly because any decent captcha is a complete pain to use for human members, and likely easier for bots than humans. However, there are plenty of better anti spam techniques that aren't as annoying or useless.

I still think the problem could easily be solved. Ask a question or two about vBulletin (anyone who joins likely wants to know about or modify vBulletin, so it's safe to assume they'll have seen the .com site as well (like, 'What is vBulletin's slogan?' or 'What is the latest major vBulletin release?') Then maybe something like sending all posts tagged by spam keywords for new members to the moderation queue (like add iphone or such like to the list).

You don't have to explain to me in fighting against those spam bots. It's common sense what has to be done but you have two posts in this thread one from an official stafff member responding which doesn't help and an advisor which is Off-topic. If they aren't bothered about it why should you be?

They obviously feel that the amount of spam posted on the org is not to the extreme and to be honest I don't see many threads that are spam related. In short, let them deal with it in the way they know how and don't worry about it because you can bet your bottom dollar noone else is.

In the last 7 days we have banned 10 spammers, just over one per day.

Given that we get 150+ new registrations per day, I dont consider that a problem, in fact I doubt its any worse than most busy forums.
