Default I bet you can't figure this out.

But maybe you can. Here's the problem:

I run a website that has both vegetarian AND vegan forums. If something is posted in the vegan forum it ALSO is relevant to vegetarians, therefore I'd love for it to ALSO be in the vegetarian forum. Simply put: something that is vegan is also vegetarian, but something that is vegetarian is NOT also vegan. Is it possible to make it so my vegetarian users don't have to check two areas of the site and only have to visit one? Thank you tons!!

Mmm...

Vegetarians do not eat fish or meat but DO eat dairy products and "animal" products so long as the animals were not harmed. Vegans do not eat any animal products what so ever. What you are referring to is a pesco-vegetarian and they are not really considered "real" vegetarians. Any ideas on how I can do this anyone??

I can't think of a way to duplicate all the threads from one forum to the other. You could do like this site does and have a "Click here to view the latest topics" link at the top of a Category that contains the Vegan and Vegetarian forums and then if the users are Vegan, have them not be able to 'see' the Vegetarian forum so when they click on the "Click here..." link, they only get the Vegan threads, whereas the Vegetarians get to see all the threads. I'm not sure how your site is laid out, so who knows if that would work for you.

Lynne,

Yeah that would work, but is that a mod or something? The problem is I would like people who are simply in the vegetarian forum to also see the contents of the vegan forum or something... I'm thinking about upgrading to 3.7 and getting the tab modification and having a "vegetarian" tab and a "vegan" tab too, but I just wish I could have whatever is in the "vegan" area show up in the vegetarian area. Hm.. anyone else?

No, it's not a mod. What I'm talking about it having both Vegan and Vegetarian being the sub-forums of Some Category and then just making it so the Vegetarian group doesn't show under that heading so when you click on the Click here to View all Threads button for the Category, nothing from the Vegetarian forum shows for the Vegans.

Go here - Community Discussions
Now, if you click on the button here:
Community Discussions: Click here to view the latest topics
Now, if you click on that, you will get a list of all the threads in those forums *except* the forums you cannot see (like a Staff forum). I, however, will see the threads in the Staff forum because I can see that based on my usergroup.

You can do something by having a Vegan usergroup that cannot see the Vegetarian forums. So when they click the link to see the threads, those Vegetarian threads won't show. But, if a Vegetarian clicks the link to see the threads, they will see threads in both the Vegan adn Vegetarian forums cuz they can see both those forums.

Ohhh ok I see. Do you know if it is possible to have someone added to a certain usergroup upon registration depending on whether or not they filled out a field?

Maybe try making use of the "Thread Prefixes" in vB 3.7

Create a prefix for vegans, maybe also one for vegetarians, then you could possibly include a link to show only vegan threads. (See this post for a little help on how to make a link).

Basically you would need to have the same threads in multiple forums. Request a coder to make this: Modification Requests (Unpaid)
And request Jelsoft to add this: Post thread in multiple forums with permanent redirects.

Could you just use the RSS feed from the vegan topic and post it with the auto poster in the other forum, maybe with a really short time between running the scheduled task? Likely completely server killing on a massive forum, but it'd likely work.
