Major Bandwidth issues and I need some help.
Alright all,
I could really use your help here. I am chewing up major amounts of bandwidth(or as I see it) and I'm wondering if anyone would mind helping me out. This might be a long process to bring you up to speed, so if anyone has the time to help me dig into it all....I would appreciate it big time!! My website is this. A vB forum with photopost integrated into it. The only major addition I have to the site is a chat box on the bottom of the forums. Right now I have the photo gallery shutdown and have for about a week to determine what is pulling all the bandwidth. I've also shutdown the ability to view that chat mod to only those who are registered. Based upon these stats, do you feel that the amount of bandwidth being used is out of control? ha, ha Date # of visits Pages Hits Bandwidth Used 01 Aug 2008 399 12534 62521 2.13 GB 02 Aug 2008 296 3833 24169 275.64 MB 03 Aug 2008 274 4821 23934 277.97 MB 04 Aug 2008 378 17922 68454 1.21 GB 05 Aug 2008 439 14953 64962 1.39 GB 06 Aug 2008 352 19033 77163 2.14 GB 07 Aug 2008 365 13309 56223 970.88 MB 08 Aug 2008 345 14731 48645 1.84 GB 09 Aug 2008 274 6079 18901 331.42 MB 10 Aug 2008 325 6391 25992 320.17 MB 11 Aug 2008 340 15338 43904 535.31 MB 12 Aug 2008 385 21489 70570 2.00 GB 13 Aug 2008 410 19783 71518 2.18 GB 14 Aug 2008 364 22638 66807 1.46 GB 15 Aug 2008 328 20373 54862 2.82 GB 16 Aug 2008 325 7397 23598 251.15 MB 17 Aug 2008 393 13924 39608 327.88 MB 18 Aug 2008 496 25075 71734 1.50 GB 19 Aug 2008 451 21821 64468 1.99 GB 20 Aug 2008 441 25196 66711 2.36 GB 21 Aug 2008 199 6215 20531 384.98 MB 22 Aug 2008 0 0 0 0 23 Aug 2008 0 0 0 0 24 Aug 2008 0 0 0 0 25 Aug 2008 0 0 0 0 26 Aug 2008 0 0 0 0 27 Aug 2008 0 0 0 0 28 Aug 2008 0 0 0 0 29 Aug 2008 0 0 0 0 30 Aug 2008 0 0 0 0 31 Aug 2008 0 0 0 0 Average 344.50 14220.68 48421.59 1.21 GB Total 7579 312855 1065275 26.60 GB --------------- Added [DATE]1219410510[/DATE] at [TIME]1219410510[/TIME] --------------- I can attempt to get any other stats you all might need to see to help determine where or what might be causing this all. Thanks and I appreciate your help!! My website experience is pretty limited and I guess at this point I'm stuck on what else to do! |

It seems pretty weird that in some days you have 300MB and in other days you're pushing gigabytes. Do you have any more detailed stats, comparing a 2GB traffic day to a 300MB traffic day?
Also, you might be running some backups which are causing this. |

Might you be able to tell me what stats you may be looking for? I will attempt to find anything that may help you with that.
I know this might be a website no-no, but I have yet to back up anything. So doing backups wouldn't be affecting bandwidth used. I don't know if this helps you out at all, but here goes. |

Not sure if this helps either, but....
April of this year is when I switched to a new hosting company thus the reason for our stats to start that month. |

Is there any evidence of robots(such as Googlebot, Yahoo, etc.) in the stats?

If this isn't enough info, let me know and I can try and dig for more info. It's look as though they are hitting my website, but not enough to effect bandwidth very much at all. But maybe I don't know enough to be able to decipher these stats well enough. |

Depending on what the shout box is set to its refreshing normally every 5 seconds for EVERY user who has the shout box on the page. This is easily 1000's of page views a minute. Try switching to Infernal Shout and enable the AOP system which only refreshes the page upon the box actually having some to update.
If you notice how php files are eating a major part of your bandwidth every time the shout box refreshes that's a php file being called. |
