Ok so I have 2 forums which only certain usergroups can see. Unfortunately, when a new post is made in these forums, the site says that there is a new post. When they click it it says there are no new posts, since they can't see those forums. Is there a way I can make it so that the new posts only goes up for the usergroups who can access those forums? Thanks.

You mean that thread (titles) show in the new posts list, but when they click on them they have no permission to view the thread?

no. On the frontpage it says "New Posts: 6" but when they click the link it says there are no new posts to display. I tested it by posting in our staff forum and the count went up.

I suggest you ask in the thread of the modification you are using to show the number of new posts, this is not a default vB feature.
